YERCAUD

The usual reaction that I get at the mention of Yercaud is either “What’s that!!” or “Where is that!!” or “Where do you find such places!!!” But the truth is that in a life as hectic as ours, places like these are required.
Stressed out with the hectic work life and our usual parties, we had to find a place where there was no noise, no pollution and no rain (as we were planning our trip in June). Our answer for such a place was “Yercaud, a small hill station near Salem”. This was our second annual holiday with parents.. This place fulfilled everything we were looking for, especially the no noise part!!! One can go to Yercaud by bus or taxi from Salem by the ghat road. The hotel we booked was “Hotel Grand palace” which is considered to be one of the best hotels there with a valley view on one side & lake view on the other.

Low clouds brought meaning to the saying “we are on cloud nine!!” Chilled weather, lush green valleys make it very picturesque and relaxing. There is nothing much to see around, but interestingly we were taken to view points on the hills which gave a different view of the city below, the highest of these points, was 5326 ft. This hill top had the Servarayan temple, thus giving the Yercaud hill area another name “Shevaroy Hills”.

At this point it was very difficult to see anyone standing just 2 feet away from us as it was completely covered in clouds. We also visited a rose garden and on the way back were told that the only shopping there was pure eucalyptus oil and spices like laung, dalchini, elaichi.. Inspite of picking loads of packet…mom still feels she should have bought more!!!

An ideal destination if you are looking out for relaxation!!

  1. I haven't visited in a while because I thought it was getting boring, but the last few entries have been fantastic, so I think I'll reinstate you on my daily blog list. You have earned it, my friend.
